SHIPPING UPDATE

Below is an update for each jurisdiction. 

ROW - we have managed to resolve most issues with the exact dimensions. 99% of all backer shipments were successfully loaded in Easyship. We expect them to ship out from today. For about 1% we have minor issues with missing TAX ID, unrecognized address etc. depending on jurisdiction. We will reach out to you directly to request the missing information. 


UK - we understand that all backers have received their sharpeners. If you have still not received your shipment, please contact us at [email protected] 

Ireland, Malta and Cyprus will receive their orders from the UK too this week. 


USA & CANADA - the goods were successfully delivered to our warehouse in Tennessee. This time, no issues with the US rail system and the customs declarations was smooth.  Sadly, we encountered an unexpected problem with our own 3PL fulfillment center.  We have used them for 10 years and 4 previous kickstarter campaigns without any major issues. 

They claim that they are extremely busy and have low capacity  for this shipment, with a plan to start shipping out over the next few weeks. We are extremely surprised, disappointed and we have expressed that this is unacceptable.  We are trying to agree an earlier shipping schedule and have continuously tried to put pressure on them.


EUROPE (Ex UK, Ireland, Malta and Cyprus) - Whilst the goods are in our German warehouse, and we did send the final Backerlist on Monday morning last week, we subsequently had a dispute with the 3PL over the shipping costs, as they announced early last week that they refuse to use DHL. We should admit that we have been discussing this issue with them for the last months.  

For small shipments DPD charges a high base cost, whereas DHL is competitive in general but is more complicated for the 3PL to use. 

If we used DPD, which the German warehouse suggests, the cost of shipping is extremely expensive and in some cases more than the sum of what you have pledged. On average the cost is substantially higher than the shipping cost that we charged you in this Kickstarter campaign.  Please note that since the campaign, all shipping costs have generally increased substantially, so we have already taken a higher than expected loss on the bulk shipments from the factory. 

If we paid for DHL shipments we would make a substantial loss.  On Tuesday last week we requested to set up our own DHL account to print the shipping labels ourselves.  On Wednesday we called DHL Germany to speed up the account opening, but were advised to wait a few more days. 

Once our German DHL account is live, we should be able to dispatch all sharpeners over 1-2 weeks.  We had hoped to resolve this issue quicker and be able to give you more positive news. 


RARE QUALITY ISSUE

Following the shipment of the UK batch, 4 backers out of nearly 250 reported a manufacturing fault, where the fine sharpening wheel was mounted substantially more to the left and not centered around the slot. Whilst this does not impact the sharpening angle, it makes the slot more difficult to use.  Please be advised that this is extremely rare, but we take this issue seriously and will send you a replacement. Please send us an email to [email protected] with a photo and a video (less than 4mb please).

SHIPPING

Dear Backers, 


Thank you for your support and patience this far. We wish you all a happy Easter. Here is a shipping update. 

UK

All backer addresses have been locked and we have sent the final shipping list to the warehouse for fulfillment. Due to the Easter holidays they have not yet started shipping out. This is likely to start on tomorrow, Tuesday.  You will receive your tracking code by email. 


Europe (Ex UK) 

All backer addresses have been locked and we have sent the final shipping list to the warehouse in Germany for fulfillment.  Due to the Easter holidays they have not yet started shipping out. This is likely to start on tomorrow, Tuesday.  You will receive your tracking code by email. 


ROW

We are sorry for the delay in shipping out, but the shipping system requires exact weights and dimensions and rejects small deviations. We have been trying to resolve this together with the HK warehouse which has caused a delay. We hope to ship out this week. You will receive a tracking link. 


USA and Canada

The sharpeners were off-loaded some weeks ago and reloaded on to the US train service, bound for Tennessee. We have not yet declared customs so the goods are still in transit. From past experience, the US train service is prone to delays. 

Customs will be paid and declared in once the goods reach Tennessee.  We have requested an update from our forwarder but it has not yet been received due to the Easter holidays. We will keep you posted once we have more information.

LOCKING ADDRESSES UK AND ROW

UK and ROW

We are starting to ship out all sharpeners for the UK and ROW this week.  We have sent out a notice to lock your addresses. You will not be able to change your address once locked.

USA and EU

We are still waiting for an updated from our shipping company, but we have not yet cleared customs so the goods are still in transit.
